Tips for Sentence Variety
Short sentences punch. One idea. Clear. Direct. Use them after long sentences for impact.
Medium sentences carry information. They're the workhorses of your prose, building the argument step by step.
Long sentences slow down. They work well for complex ideas, building tension, adding qualification, or creating a sense of accumulation and weight — but use them sparingly.
Rule of thumb: Aim for a mix. If you have 3+ long sentences in a row, break one up. No more than 2-3 very long sentences per page.
